DESCRIPTION

A finely hand-decorated Italian ceramic espresso cup inspired by Ortigia’s vibrant aesthetic. Featuring a rich blue ground with detailed serigraphy and gold accents, it elevates the everyday espresso ritual. Ideal for collectors and lovers of distinctive Italian tableware.

This handcrafted ceramic tazzina captures the spirited charm of Ortigia through bold color and refined detail. The vivid blue surface is brought to life with intricate decorative elements—most notably a striking zebra motif set against a lively, almost narrative backdrop. The addition of gold serigraphy introduces a subtle luminosity, catching the light and lending a refined contrast to the saturated glaze.

Compact in form yet rich in character, this espresso cup is a modern interpretation of the traditional Italian tazza. Its petite scale is perfectly suited for serving espresso, inviting a slower, more intentional coffee ritual rooted in Italian daily life.

Hand-decorated using artisanal techniques, each piece reflects the human touch behind its creation. The application of gold detailing requires precision and care, distinguishing it from mass-produced ceramics and reinforcing its role as both functional object and collectible.

Ideal for the espresso enthusiast, design collector, or thoughtful gift-giver, this tazzina brings personality to the table—whether used during a quiet morning moment or presented after a convivial Italian dinner.

ARTISAN STORY

Ortigia Sicilia is a privately owned Italian soap and scent company founded in Sicily in 2006 by Sue Townsend. The luxurious range scented products are formulated using natural products indigenous to Sicily and inspired by the aesthetics, colours and scents of Italy’s most historic and tropical region.

The name Ortigia comes from the small island that lies at the edge of the ancient fortified city of Siracusa, on Sicily’s southeastern coast. The streets of Ortigia are crumbling baroque façades of great splendour looking out on 3 sides to the sea. The Piazza del Duomo is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy. Situated on the southeastern side of Sicily, this part of the island is known as “la Sicilia Orientale” because of its proximity to Africa and almost tropical climate.

Sicily is enriched with a colourful history of conquest, invasion and assimilation. It has been fought over and colonised: Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Hohenstaufens, Angevins, Aragonese and Bourbons all left their mark. Examples are found throughout the island. The island’s history, reflected in the uniquely rich and layered culture that is found in Sicily today, has inspired the creation of the Ortigia range.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Hand-wash only: Due to the delicate hand-applied gold serigraphy and glaze, please avoid using your dishwasher.

Use mild soap: Wash gently with warm water and a soft cloth or sponge—avoid abrasive pads.

Avoid sudden temperature changes: To prevent cracking, do not pour boiling liquids straight into the mug.

  • Handle with care: The artisanal finish may show slight variations, so treat it gently to maintain its beauty.
