Hand-Painted Italian Rectangular Serving Platter by Geribi (11" x 8")

A refined, one-of-a-kind rectangular serving platter handcrafted and hand-painted in Italy by Artisan Geribi. The design is richly architectural: a deep olive-green field is woven with golden interlaced arches, centered by a sunlit floral medallion in warm yellow and green. On each side, a bold border of ruby-red dotwork adds rhythm and energy—creating a piece that feels both classic and graphic, like a contemporary interpretation of Italian maiolica ornament.

Its gently raised edges make it ideal for serving, while the meticulous brushwork gives it true collectible presence. Part of the Biordi Art Imports Collectible Collection, this platter is one of a kind—made by hand, and impossible to replicate exactly.

The Ribigini family has been producing majolica for many generations. Gerardo owns the workshop. His Father organized a group of artists after the ware and built a factory for 200 workers. When Gerardo was 15 his apprenticeship and started the business at the age of 20. Gerardo began as an apprentice at 15 years old. Now Gerardo, and his daughter, Claudia, hand-craft one of the most popular designs sold at Biordi, the peacock feather ceramic design. These patterns are special order. Allow 3 to 6 months to complete your special orders as each piece is made for you, and can also be personalized with your name and/or the occasion.

Italian ceramics are heirloom quality products, and can last lifetime with proper care. We have some suggestions that will preserve your majolica for years to come.

Majolica is dishwasher safe, but many people choose to hand wash their pieces as a precaution. Because majolica is a porous material, some pieces are not meant to hold liquid for a long period of time. Check for warning labels before ordering a product, as the pieces that are most notorious for "sweating" are appropriately labeled.

Majolica is sensitive to extreme temperatures, specifically boiling or freezing liquids. Pouring water with a rolling boil directly into a teapot, for example, may lead to breakage. To avoid this, temper the object. The industry standard is 620 degrees Celsius (1,148 degrees Fahrenheit). Quench the glass to cool it.

Crazing is common in well used majolica. The tiny cracks in the glaze do not affect the functionality of your majolica.

Majolica hand-crafted products should not be microwaved, as it may crack and/or break the ceramics.
