A hand-painted Italian pasta and soup bowl in the Antico Deruta pattern, made in Deruta by the FIMA workshop. Antico Deruta is the quieter, more formal counterpart to Ricco Deruta: a soft gray glaze with deep cobalt-blue Renaissance ornamentation, sometimes called the "musicians' pattern." Each bowl is painted by a single artisan, so no two are identical.

This is the 10-inch pasta and soup bowl in the Full Design — wide-rimmed, shallow, and sized for a generous individual serving. The wide rim displays the Antico cobalt pattern around the food. The piece is made of tin-glazed earthenware — known as majolica — and the soft gray glaze gives it a calmer feel than the more colorful Deruta patterns. Small variations in color, line, and shape are signs of authentic hand-painting.

Sized for individual servings of pasta, soup, risotto, or a meal-sized salad. Pair it with the Antico Deruta 11" dinner plate and 8" salad plate to build a complete three-piece place setting. It mixes especially well with Ricco Deruta and also pairs with Raffaellesco, Siena Vario, Orvieto Green Rooster, and Bordato.

Customization and personalization are available on select pieces. Antico Deruta – Antico comes from the Italian adjective in Stilo Antico, which literally means “ancient style”, and describes the Renaissance’s polyphonic or musical quality of artistic composition. Antico is known as the musicians pattern - rich, subtle, and elegant, Antico Deruta dinnerware is characterized by a gray glaze and a deep blue patterning.

When you order this hand-painted Classic Deruta Dinnerware you can mix these patterns with each other. Another way to go is to combine the "full designs" dinnerware with their "simplified" versions that you see next to each other in the above photos.

Italian ceramics are heirloom quality products, and can last lifetime with proper care. We have some suggestions that will preserve your majolica for years to come.

Majolica is dishwasher safe, but many people choose to hand wash their pieces as a precaution. Because majolica is a porous material, some pieces are not meant to hold liquid for a long period of time. Check for warning labels before ordering a product, as the pieces that are most notorious for "sweating" are appropriately labeled.

Majolica is sensitive to extreme temperatures, specifically boiling or freezing liquids. Pouring water with a rolling boil directly into a teapot, for example, may lead to breakage. To avoid this, temper the object. The industry standard is 620 degrees Celsius (1,148 degrees Fahrenheit). Quench the glass to cool it.

Crazing is common in well used majolica. The tiny cracks in the glaze do not affect the functionality of your majolica.

Majolica hand-crafted products should not be microwaved, as it may crack and/or break the ceramics.
