This hand-painted condiment bowl with fishes by Domenico Liguori is perfect for a condiments, nuts, olives or even fishes.  Each dish is unique, with a different design, number of fishes and colorations of the fishes. The colors should be mixed and matched for a magical presentation. The inspiration for this collection was a recent trip to Vietri sul Mare in the Amalfi Coast.  A popular sushi restaurant served sushi on these incredible ceramic dishes.  The artisan Domenico, was approached to create a collection for Biordi Art Imports.

The small imperfections such as the difference in color, shape, diameter or small bubbles that form inside, do not constitute a defect but testify that it is actually an artisanal product.

DOMENICO LIGUORI

Born in 1965 in Raito di Vietri sul Mare (Salerno) where he lives and works. From an early age he followed his brothers in the ceramic workshop, thus becoming passionate about this ancient art which he made his are very colorful and the stylized fish take shape as they intertwine with each other and form pleasant decorations on vases, plates and objects created by him.

He creates and models ceramic pieces with a clean style which are modeled with human figures and anthropomorphic creatures.  The decorations that distinguish him reflect the local tradition inspired by the proximity of the sea and own under their guidance and experience.

He has participated in numerous collective exhibitions since 1995 in various locations and in themed exhibitions promoted by various Italian municipalities (Lodi, Varese, Milan, Santo Stefano di Camastra (ME), Salerno, Assisi (PG), Calitri (AV), Grottaglie ( TA), Cerreto Sannita (BN) and all the editions of “Journey through ceramics” competition of the Municipality of Vietri sul Mare directed by various international artists and art critics.

Italian ceramics are heirloom quality products, and can last lifetime with proper care. We have some suggestions that will preserve your majolica for years to come.

Majolica is dishwasher safe, but many people choose to hand wash their pieces as a precaution. Because majolica is a porous material, some pieces are not meant to hold liquid for a long period of time. Check for warning labels before ordering a product, as the pieces that are most notorious for "sweating" are appropriately labeled.

Majolica is sensitive to extreme temperatures, specifically boiling or freezing liquids. Pouring water with a rolling boil directly into a teapot, for example, may lead to breakage. To avoid this, temper the object. The industry standard is 620 degrees Celsius (1,148 degrees Fahrenheit). Quench the glass to cool it.

Crazing is common in well used majolica. The tiny cracks in the glaze do not affect the functionality of your majolica.

Majolica hand-crafted products should not be microwaved, as it may crack and/or break the ceramics.
